Syllabus

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
Achieve optimal skills in the odontostomatological, medical and surgical management of the patient, with special attention to the patient with systemic comorbidities of various nature.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
The student will perform the role of primary caregiver by applying the acquired knowledge and under supervision demonstrating an understanding of the clinical management of the patient with odontostomatological diseases.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT:
The student will be able to frame and diagnose different clinical pictures and understand the most suitable therapeutic approaches for the individual case.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Acquisition of the ability to communicate and problem-solve with both the patient and colleagues/colleagues.
LEARNING SKILLS:
The student should demonstrate the ability to manage the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of cases of increasing complexity in dentistry.

Knowledge of anatomy, general and oral physiology, general and special odontostomatological pathology, internal medicine, pharmacology.
In order to take the examination, the student must have passed the following integrated courses included in the study plan: C.I. Odontostomatological Disciplines 1 (4th year), C.I. Odontostomatological Disciplines 2 (4th year), C.I. Odontostomatological Disciplines 3, C.I. Special Odontostomatological Pathology, C.I. Oral and General Surgery, C.I. Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, C.I. Maxillofacial Pathology and Therapy, C.I. Implantology.

The contents of the course concern the odontostomatological management of the patient declined in all its disciplines, medical and surgical, with particular attention to the patient with systemic comorbidities of various kinds (oncological, infectious, cardiovascular, autoimmune, metabolic, neurologic, rheumatological, hematological etc.).
The patient's complete diagnostic and rehabilitation path will be addressed.

Main reference texts of the basic and specialised dental disciplines adopted by the lecturers of the degree course in the relevant modules.
Scientific articles published in the last 10 years on major search databases and national/international guidelines.

Clinical examination of the patient, anamnesis and intra- and extra-oral objective examination.

Conventional frontal lessons.
The students will be invited by the lecturer to participate in seminars and/or projects scheduled during the semester and related to the topics covered in the course in order to deepen and learn the latest diagnostic/therapeutic techniques in the field of odontostomatology.
Any changes to the procedures above described, necessary to ensure the application of COVID-19 safety protocols, will be communicated on DSM website.

Lessons will be recorded and stored on Teams platform.

The student's assessment involves a single oral test for the entire integrated course (no partial tests), where clinical cases are proposed, which the student must demonstrate the ability to discuss and handle theoretically on the basis of the expected learning outcomes defined in the learning area of the teaching.
The evaluation grid adopted is as follows:
- Excellent (30 - 30 cum laude): excellent knowledge of the subject matter, excellent ownership of language, excellent analytical ability; the student is able to brilliantly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Very good (27 - 29): good knowledge of the subject matter, remarkable command of language, good analytical ability; the student is able to apply theoretical knowledge correctly to concrete cases.
- Good (24-26): good knowledge of the main topics, fair language skills; the student shows an adequate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Satisfactory (21-23): the student does not show full mastery of the main topics of the course, even though he/she possesses the fundamental knowledge; however, he/she shows satisfactory properties of language and sufficient ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Sufficient (18-20): minimal knowledge of the main teaching topics and technical language, limited ability to apply theoretical knowledge adequately to concrete cases.
- Insufficient: the student does not possess acceptable knowledge of the content of the various topics in the syllabus.

This teaching explores topics closely related to one or more of the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
