KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: At the end of the course, students will have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the pediatric dentistry principles’, of the materials and instruments used, the preventive measures of oral pathologies in children and the modalities of interaction with children.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: At the end of the course, students should be able to diagnose the main oral pathologies of the child and perform the basic pediatric dentistry techniques.
MAKING JUDGEMENTS: At the end of the course, students will have to be able to critically analyze individual clinical cases differentiating diagnostic and therapeutic paths according to the young age of the patient and choose the most appropriate treatment in relation to the clinical situation.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: At the end of the course the students will have to be able to speak and discuss appropriately, using the specific terminology acquired through the lectures, the teaching materials and the recommended books and be able to communicate oral health information effectively.
LEARNING SKILLS: At the end of the course, students must demonstrate that they are able to apply the knowledge, skills and the minimum competencies described in this Syllabus.
To have attended the 5th year Pediatric Dentistry course
The Pediatric Dentistry clinical training is carried out on pediatric patients under the supervision of clinical tutors. The student will learn to perform the basic techniques of prevention and treatment of the main oral pathologies in children with increasing degrees of autonomy, as well as the management of the most frequent dental emergencies in children.

Clinical training under the supervision of clinical tutors
The knowledge will be verified during the clinical training by tutors who will assist the student during patient procedures and who will evaluate the degree of autonomy and accuracy of the treatments performed. The level of autonomy can be increased only when the student will be able to adequately perform the procedures assigned by the tutor in the previous level.
The final test is part of the oral exam of 861ME-1 - DENTAL CLINIC 1, which consists which consists of a single final test in which knowledge and skills relating to all modules are ascertained through the discussion of clinical cases presented by the student, in which it will be verified whether the student is able to diagnose the main oral pathologies of the child and perform the basic techniques of pediatric dentistry, critically analyzing, through appropriate terminology, individual clinical cases and differentiating the diagnostic and therapeutic pathways according to the young age of the patient, in order to choose the most appropriate treatment in relation to the clinical situation.
To pass the exam (18/30) the student must demonstrate that he has acquired sufficient knowledge of all the topics covered during the course. To achieve the maximum score (30/30 cum laude), the student must instead demonstrate that he has acquired an excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course.
The score of the final exam is attributed by means of a vote expressed out of thirty.
