Syllabus

Provide the student with the essential theoretical-practical notions that allow him a systematic and rational approach to the diagnosis and therapy of oral rehabilitation with fixed prostheses on natural teeth, so as to enable him to design and create the most common prosthetic products. Through the analysis of recent scientific literature, the different materials will also be analyzed in order to provide a critical analysis method of modern dental and dental technology therapies, together with objective judgment criteria based on scientific evidence. The characteristics and problems of digital techniques used in both adhesive and conventional dentistry will be explored. D1- Knowledge and understanding: At the end of the course, the student will have to know the main techniques for creating indirect restorations. D2- Knowledge and understanding: The student must be able to put a correct prosthetic treatment plan for the rehabilitation of patients. Particular attention will be paid to the ability of interdisciplinary argumentation between the prosthetic and periodontal relationships. D3- Making judgments. The student must be able to evaluate, opting among the different possibilities of prosthetic rehabilitation which is the most suitable from a prognostic point of view. D4- Communication skills. The student must be able to describe the topics covered during the course with adequate language skills. D5-Learning ability. At the end of the course the student must be able to independently deepen the topics covered, and must also be able to transfer the notions to subsequent courses.

Know the characteristics of the main classes of dental materials used in restorative dentistry

The course includes the teaching of a correct prosthetic treatment plan from the first visit to the finalization of the simple and complex case in fixed prosthesis. The initial part of the course includes a diagnostic and interdisciplinary frame work that has the fixed prosthesis with the other dental branches such as periodontology, endodontics,. operative dentistry, orthodontics and gnatology. Some hints of gnatology will be rated focusing on pathological problems that can arise with endentolus, articulators and facial bow will be treated. The course includes treating the rehabilitation of the posterior sectors with partial adhesives techniques. We will focus on the construction and testing phases of prosthetics materials and device and also evaluate the difference between conventional and digital techniques. Finally, the partial adhesive restorations in the anterior teeth will be treated and the rehabilitation plans to have in the case of parafunctinal patients or where a restoration of the vertical dimension is necessary will also be evaluated. The course provides that the student learns to discern in the indications between one material for prosthetic rehabilitation and the other and that he know hot to orient himself in an interdiplinary treatment.

Fixed prosthesis on natural teeth. Types, technologies and production materials. The treatment plan: the operational choices in relation to the Function, to the Aesthetics, to the expectations of the Patient. Analysis of precision and prosthetic margin in fixed prosthesis, knowledge of the mechanical and aesthetic characteristics and biocompatibility of the different restorative materials. Instruments and materials used in fixed prosthesis, classification of prosthetic abutment preparations, clinical operating procedures and techniques for the preparation of the stump and for the realization of crowns and bridges. Rationale, techniques and materials for the realization. The imprint: materials and clinical procedures. The temporary prosthesis in fixed prosthesis and the conditioning of the gingival tissues. Biological assumptions, aims, clinical procedures. The cementation in fixed prosthesis: temporary, definitive, adhesive. Materials and operating procedures. The restoration of the endodontically treated element. Fiber posts, alloy abutment pins. From metal-ceramics to integral ceramics: product, clinical and technical analysis of current prosthetic restoration materials in the light of the most recent scientific acquisitions. Indications for a rational choice and aimed at obtaining the best cost-benefit ratio. High strength ceramics: from zirconia to lithium disilicate. Veneers and restorations in ceramic and composite resin back stickers.

lecture

Verification of learning will take place through oral examination and a practice part after the end of the course. During the oral examination, the level of knowledge and competence achieved by the student will be established. In addition, the mastery of expressive tools will be evaluated, and the correct comprehension of the contents of the course through general questions in response to which the student will have to demonstrate language properties and reasoning skills by linking the various topics presented during the course. The exam takes place with an oral exam to evaluate the level of knowledge and competence achieved also to improve your learning relating to the topics of the program. The duration of the exam varies depending on the progress of the test itself, the results of which will be published using the "Partial tests" IT tool provided by the Esse3 platform, and provision of a single final appeal in which the Commission proceeds to verify the results of integrated teaching and the related verbalization The final evaluation takes into account the results of both evaluations and takes place with a single verbalization at the end of the exam. In the case of partial tests, in order to pass the exam relating to the teaching, the student must obtain an evaluation of ≥ 18 in each of the partial tests, he will not be able to refuse the result of the partial test, but only the grade of the entire integrated course and, in this case, he will have to repeat all the partial tests. The vote is expressed out of thirty. The methods of carrying out the partial tests must be defined within the syllabus of the integrated course (teaching) by the Head of the Integrated Course and detailed in the syllabus of each module (teaching unit). The Student must register for the online exam session on ESSE3. The grade of the partial test is valid until the extraordinary session of the academic year in question. The final grade of the integrated course exam derives from the weighted average, therefore weighted on the CFU of each module, obtained in the individual partial tests. For the purposes of defining the average, the value of 1 point is attributed to any honors obtained in the partial tests, i.e. the grade of 30 and honors in the partial tests corresponds numerically to the score of 31. To attribute honors to the final exam grade , it will be necessary for the weighted average obtained by the student in the partial tests relating to the various modules to be >30.5. The vote is expressed in thirtieths. Exam assessment 30-30 cum laude: excellent knowledge of the topics and excellent language skills; the student is able to brilliantly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases and to readily connect the notions. 27-29: good knowledge of the topics, remarkable language skills, good analytical skills; the student is able to correctly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases and to connect the notions. 24-26: good knowledge of the main topics, good command of the language; the student shows an adequate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. 21-23: the student does not demonstrate full mastery of the main teaching topics, even if he possesses the fundamental knowledge; requires the intervention of the teacher to answer the questions correctly; however, it shows satisfactory properties of language. 18-20: minimal knowledge of the main teaching topics and technical language, limited ability to adequately apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. <18: the student does not have an acceptable knowledge of the program contents.
