Aim of the course is to offer to the students the knowledges and the skills to understand and recognize the main benign and malignant blood disease, better understand their pathopysiology and their implication for the oral cavity The course will focus also on the effects that therapies adopted to treat hematological diseases may have on the oral cavity focusing in particilar on mucositis, infections, the effects of dyphosphonates and graft versus host disease.
Knowledges of biology, cytology, histology, physiology.
Etiology, patophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic workup, prognostic scores, general principles of therapy of the main benign and malignant blood diseases; implications for the oral cavity.

• Blood, interpretation of blood cell count, hemopoiesis • Classification of thrombocytopenia and disorder of hemostasis: implication for the oral cavity • Acute leukemias: diagnosis, pathohysiology, prognosis, clinical presentation, implications for the oral cavity • Lymphomas: diagnosis, pathohysiology, prognosis, clinical presentation, implications for the oral cavity • Plasma cell neoplasms: diagnosis, pathohysiology, prognosis, clinical presentation, implications for the oral cavity • Infections of the oral cavity in patients with hematological disease, prevention and treatment • Mucositis of the oral cavity in patients with hematological disease, prevention and treatment • Hemopoietic stem cell transplant • Graft versus host disease • Disorders of hmostasis
The students during lessons will educated on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, presentation, diagnosis and principle of therapy of the main blood diseases.
The students will have a written test. Written test will be based on a multi choice quiz on topics discussed at lessons. Possible integration with oral exam
