Acquisition of basic knowledges on inflammatory, neoplastic and degenerative pathologies of principal anatomic districts.
Knowledge and understanding of the various pathology of oral cavity to apply them to the daily clinic.
Give autonomy of judgment in a morphological diagnostic reasoning and to allow communication abilities to be able to express properly from a technical point of view.
To have completed the courses of human anatomy.
Roles of pathologic anatomy; Cellular reactions; methods of recovery of the wounds; inflammation; neoplastic lesions; dystrophic lesions; main lesions of cardiovascular, respiratory, gastroenteric, hepatic, endocrinous and cutaneous districts.
Dental caries, periodontitis, gingivitis, major infections of the mouth, jaws and perioral tissues. Cysts of the jaws. Odontogenic tumours and tumour-like lesions of the jaws. Non odontogenic tumours of the jaws. Infective and non infective stomatitis. Tongue disorders. Benign chronic white mucosal lesions. Oral premalignancy. Oral cancer. Neoplastic and non neoplastic diseases of salivary glands. Mesenchymal neoplasms of the oral cavity. Melanoma and pigmented lesions of the oral cavity.

The course aims to teach students about the main pathologies that can reallize in the oral cavity, whether infectious inflammatory, noninfectious inflammatory, degenerative, autoimmune, or neoplastic.
At the end of the course, students will have the ability to recognize preneoplastic and neoplastic oral lesions and know how and when to take biopsies for evaluation by the anatomic pathologist.
FULL PROGRAM:

Mesenchymal neoplasms of the oral cavity.
Melanoma and pigmented lesions of the oral cavity.
Lectures on the main topics on the syllabus with use of slides all present in moodle.
Students will also participate in the performance of eight autopsies to learn in a hands-on way the morphology of some of the major diseases and to have rudiments of clinical medical reasoning.
Dr. Pinamonti will conduct some lessons on histopathology applied to the clinic to give students morphohistological knowledge of major diseases.
The teacher is at disposal for informations; at the beginning of the course the didactic material is delivered; and there is explained the manner of management of the course and of the examinations.
The didactic material is available on the moodle platform.
Specific oral questions to test the student's knowledge of both the general part and the specialized part.
There will be one question on the general part and at least two questions on the specialized part.
Voting in thirtieths.
To pass the examination (18/30), the student must demonstrate that he/she has acquired a knowledge sufficient of both basic and specialized topics in the area of oral pathology.
To achieve the highest grade (30/30 cum laude), the student must have shown maximum attention to lectures during the course and answered all questions posed in an excellent manner.
Exam duration about 20 minutes if the student answers nimbly.
Sufficient number of sessions to manage all students.
This teaching contributes to the realization of the ONU goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
