Competitive admission at local level with call for applications (TOLC)
Admission to this course is competitive. There is a call for applications and an admission test (TOLC)
The full list of deadlines is outlined in the Call.
Enrolment
Within deadlines
Access the Online Student Service (Esse3)
- Start the procedure for enrolment applications
Menu > Home > Enrolment
- Complete the required fields and upload the necessary documents:
- Valid identity document in PDF format (front and back)
If you log in using SPID, this will not be required - Supplementary enrolment form (at the bottom of this page)
- Passport-sized photo in JPEG format, NO SELFIES (refer to the requirements)
- Residence permit or proof of application (for non-EU citizens only)
- Valid identity document in PDF format (front and back)
- Pay the first instalment of university fees. This confirms your pre-enrolment.
Within 2 working days of payment, the university's digital services will be activated, limited to Microsoft Teams, to enable access to lectures.
- Wait for the confirmation email
Within a few days, you will receive an email confirming your enrolment. Your student number will then be visible in your Reserved Area on Esse3.
Within two working days of receiving confirmation of your enrolment, you will have full access to the University's digital services (including your institutional email account and the MyUniTS app).
- If you have yet to obtain the required qualification
If you have yet to obtain the required qualification, please start the enrolment procedure regardless, and pay the first instalment of fees. This will allow you to attend classes and give you access to the UniTS e-Learning content.
Within 15 days of receiving your official exam results, you must re-enter the online procedure and enter the missing data.
Enrolment will be finalised, and you will receive your student ID number only after you have graduated and provided the complete documentation.
Reallocation
If applicable
If you are eligible but not admitted in the ranking, you must submit a request for reconsideration and be admitted through the ranking updates to enrol.
How to express interest in the reallocation:
- Login the Online Student Service (Esse3) and follow Menu > Home > Admission Test (programmed access and master’s degrees)
- Select the reallocation application for the desired degree course
- Confirm the submission of the reallocation application
- Wait for the outcome of the ranking update, which will be published under Rankings and Updates.
If you are reallocated
You will need to complete the enrolment by following the procedure outlined in the previous paragraph.
- Read the Call for Applications and follow the instructions provided
- To enrol, you must follow 2 key steps, not necessarly in the provided order:
- Access the Online Student Service (Esse3), register to the Competition following this path: Menu > Home > Admission test (restricted-access and master degrees)
- Take the admission test/exam as described in the Call
- Wait for the publication of the ranking list: the date is on the Call. Your status may be one of the following:
- Admitted: you are in a position to enrol. Submit your application through the Online Student Service (Esse3) and pay the first instalment of tuition fees as indicated by the system
- Eligible but not admitted (if specified in the call): you are in a position to potentially be considered for vacancies or reassignment. Submit a reassignment application through the Online Student Service (Esse3) and monitor announcements regarding ranking updates
- Not admitted (if applicable): you did not reach the minimum score. You will not be able to enrol in the degree course
- Assessment of previous Academic Career
To have a previous academic career assessed, follow the procedures for special cases outlined in the Call for Applications by the deadline for submitting the enrolment application.

In order to take part in the selection procedure, follow these steps:
- Register for the ENGLISH TOLC-I test either in person or online (TOLC@CASA) through the CISIA website and pay the exam fee.
You must pass their ENGLISH TOLC-I by 23rd October 2025. ENGLISH TOLC-I tests taken in 2024 and at other universities are also valid.
You must obtain a score of at least 5 out of 50.
- Register for the selection procedure on the University website from 22nd September to 24th October 2025.
- Log in to Online Student Services (Esse3)
If you do not already have UniTS credentials, you must register following the instructions provided (preferably by logging in using SPID).
Make sure that the Italian tax code in the Esse3 system matches the tax code you used to register for your TOLC-I test on CISIA. - Select Home>Admission test (restricted-access and master degrees) from the menu and enrol. You do not need to enter your ENGLISH TOLC-I test score at this point.

You can participate in the selection procedure even if you are already enrolled in another degree programme.

Official Selection Ranking and Enrolment
The official selection ranking (graduatoria) will be published on this page in Test and Ranking section on 28 October 2025.
- Successful candidates enrolment period: from 28 to 31 October 2025
- Candidates included in the ranking but not admitted may apply for vacant or additional places

To enrol in this programme, you must meet the following requirements:
- Educational qualification: you must hold an upper secondary school diploma or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad
- If you hold a foreign qualification, consult the information dedicated to International Students to verify the validity of your qualification and specific admission requirements
- Proficiency in science and mathematics: You must have basic scientific and mathematical knowledge and skills, in particular in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, knowledge of the concept of a mathematical function and its graphical representation.
Language Skills
Knowledge of English at a minimum B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is required to successfully attend the programme. Such knowledge can be demonstrated:
- By having an appropriate language certification
- By taking the tests organised by the CLA (University Language Centre)
Rankings
Enrolment deadline: from 12 september 2025 (9.00 CEST) to 17 September 2025 at 13:00 (CEST)
English TOLC-I
To enrol in this programme, you are required to take a mandatory assessment test called English TOLC-I, organised by CISIA (Interuniversity Consortium for Integrated Access Systems). This test assesses your aptitude and preparation for mathematics studies and identifies any knowledge gaps. To take the TOLC, you must register via the CISIA website.
You can take the test at any University and it will also be valid for the University of Trieste. TOLC-I tests taken in 2024 and 2025 (by September 5th at the latest) are valid, provided they have not been used for enrolment in any degree course. If you have taken the test more than once, the test with the higher score will be considered.

- Who needs to take the test?
The English TOLC-I is mandatory for enrolment. The scores will be used to draw up the ranking list which will determine your eligibility for enrolment in this programme. The detailed information on the test, the ranking lists and their publication is described in the Admission call.
- Structure of the test
The TOLC-S consists of 50 multiple-choice questions divided into four sections:
- mathematics
- logic
- sciences
- reading comprehension
Scoring system:
- 1 point for each correct answer
- 0 points for each unanswered question
- -0.25 points for each incorrect answer
- Passing the test
If you score fewer than 12 out of 50 in the English TOLC-I, you will not be included in the ranking list.
If you enrol with a score of fewer than 18 points, you will be assigned an Additional Learning Requirement (OFA), requiring you to attend first-year tutoring activities to make up for the gap. The Additional Learning Requirements is fulfilled by attending at least 50% of the tutoring activities.
