Knowledge and understanding
The student must acquire knowledge on the female's reproductive system physiology during pregnancy and outside pregnancy.
Applying knowledge and understanding
The student must be able to apply their knowledge on physiology to understand the main diseases of pregnancy and of the female's reproductive system in non-pregnant women, and the mechanisms of action of contraceptives.
Making judgement
The student must be able to use the acquired knowledge to educate pregnant women on a healthy behaviour and medical check-ups. The student must be able to recognize the main complications of pregnancy and the main gynecological diseases. The students must be able to provide information on the possibilities of family planning, IVF, and cancer prevention.
Communications skills
By the end of the course, the student will be able to communicate obstetric and gynecologic health information effectively.
Learning skills
By the end of the course, the student will have developed the essential abilities to take refresher courses and specialist training.
Basic knowledge on human anatomy and physiology
The course covers the main complications of pregnancy, with particular reference to infections of the TORCH complex and metrorrhagia in the first trimester. The most common pathologies of the female genital tract, the causes and treatment of couple infertility, contraception and prevention of cervical cancer are also covered. At the end of the course, the student should be able to identify abnormalities in pregnancy and how to prevent infections that may affect pregnancy and normal foetal development. The student should also know how the most common diseases of the female genital tract manifest themselves, what the causes of infertility are and when assisted fertilisation can be used. The student shall have knowledge of the possibility of using contraceptive methods and how to prevent cervical cancer.

The final assessment includes a written test in which there are 33 multiple choice questions. The exam is based on the whole program of the course. The time available is 45 minutes.
The score of the exam is attributed by means of a mark expressed out of thirty. One point is awarded for each correct answer and zero points for an incorrect or missing answer.
Marks are assigned as follows:
- 30 cum laude: the student answered more than 30 questions correctly.
The lower marks correspond to the number of questions with correct answers.
