Syllabus

D1 - Knowledge and understanding
At the end of the course, the student will have to demonstrate that he knows how to frame the main internal medicine diseases listed under the heading "Contenuti". In particular, the student must be able to know the physiopathology and causes of the various clinical pictures and to propose a reasoned series of diagnostic investigations to be used for each pathology. Finally, he/she should be able to understand the possibilities and limitations of treating these conditions.
D2 - Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
At the end of the course, the student must be able to interpret a clinical picture that will be presented as part of the program carried out. The student must also be able to understand the principles of the diagnostic procedure, nursing care and applied medical therapy.
D3 - Making judgments
At the end of the course, the student must be able to describe the characteristics of the diseases encompassed in the program and understand the rationale of the main differential diagnoses.
D4 - Communication skills
At the end of the course, the student will have to demonstrate that he/she is able to explain the notions referred to in point D1 and place them in the context of a relationship with the healthcare staff and possibly with the patient.
D5 - Learning ability
At the end of the course, the student will have to demonstrate that he is able to independently find and learn the guidelines and literature on medical pathology useful in the nursing field.

In order to satisfactorily acquire the contents of this course, the student must have acquired basic notions of biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, general and clinical pathology.

During the course, the main internal diseases in the medical field will be presented, and in particular metabolic diseases, cardiovascular conditions relevant to internal medicine, the main blood diseases, gastroenterological diseases, liver diseases and endocrine diseases. The etiology and pathophysiology, clinical picture and complications reasoned on the basis of the pathophysiology, the main diagnostic investigations, hints of differential diagnosis and medical therapy of each condition will be presented.
There is currently no specific program for particular groups of students, which must therefore be agreed if necessary.

The slides used for the lessons will be made available as well as other useful material for study and further study (mainly links to thematic sites).
At the moment, there is no provision for the provision of differentiated teaching material for groups of students.
For students who wish to learn more, the following textbook is recommended:
Antonelli Incalzi R. Internal Medicine for Nursing Sciences. Ed. Piccin.

The course program includes etiology, pathogenesis, clinical and symptomatic picture, diagnostic framework, principles of treatment and prognosis of the following diseases.
Metabolic diseases: type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus, primary and secondary dyslipidemias, gout;
Cardiovascular diseases of internal medicine relevance: heart failure, systemic arterial hypertension, atherosclerosis of the various districts, rheumatic disease, thromboembolic diseases;
blood diseases: anemias, myeloproliferative syndromes and lymphomas;
gastroenterological diseases: celiac disease, Chron's disease, ulcerative colitis, bacterial colitis (including pseudomembranous colitis), ischemic colitis, liver cirrhosis and other common medical liver diseases;
Endocrinology: pituitary diseases, thyroid diseases, hyper and hypoparathyroidisms and alterations of calcium-phosphorus metabolism, endocrine diseases of the adrenal (Cushing, Addison, Conn) and diseases of the reproductive system, diseases of the endocrine pancreas, obesity.

The lessons will be frontal supported by slides (in Power Point format) which will be made available to the students. The recording of lessons in presence is foreseen: they can be made available in the times and in the ways indicated by the University.

The power point presentations relating to the teaching units are going to be available on the moodle@units and Microsoft Teams IT platforms

The certification of the learning outcomes will take place with an oral exam carried out in the collegial seat together with the other teaching modules.
The student will be asked to discuss selected clinical cases to evaluate the deductive abilities deriving from the knowledge, or he/she will be asked to describe a certain clinical condition. There are going to be a series of questions relating to the subject that can range from two to four.
Critical elements in the judgment of this knowledge are the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical and laboratory picture, diagnostic principles, possible urgency of treatment, principles of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment, as well as the description of the areas of nursing intervention.
The final score (in thirties) will be assigned according to the following criteria:
-Excellent (30 -30 cum laude): excellent knowledge of the topics, excellent language skills, excellent analytical skills; the student is able to brilliantly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
-Very good (27 -29): good knowledge of the topics, remarkable language skills, good analytical skills; the student is able to correctly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
-Good (24-26): good knowledge of the main topics, good expertise of the language; the student shows an adequate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Satisfactory (21-23): the student does not show full mastery of the main topics of the teaching, even if he possesses the fundamental knowledge; however, he shows satisfactory language skills and sufficient ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Sufficient (18-20): minimum knowledge of the main teaching topics and technical language, limited ability to adequately apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Insufficient (<18): the student does not have an acceptable knowledge of the contents of the various topics of the program.
