Syllabus

The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge and develop awareness of the safety of patients, operators and the environment, and the regulations governing safety in the workplace.
To provide knowledge useful for defining the professional reference framework through the understanding of the nursing role.
The course aims to provide students with the knowledge on epidemiology/prevention of diseases.


At the end of the course, the student must be able to:

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Know the principles on which patient safety is based, Know the principles and actions for the prevention of healthcare-related infections, Know how the safe working procedures related to the correct use of collective and personal means of protection, Know the organization of the National and Regional Health Service, the regulatory history of the development of the nursing discipline and profession in Italy
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Identify strategies for the prevention, early identification and management of risks related to the safety of clients
Design interventions that guarantee safety in the assistance and surveillance of the patients
Collaborate with health professionals in the prevention of safety-related risks, placing the assisted person at the center of the process.
To find, recognize and interpret a regulatory text and/or a guideline for safety in nursing.
Implement the nursing process in awareness of the role and responsibility, also ethical and deontological, of the Nursing Profession

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
Establish priority interventions to ensure the safety of the client, to analyze and propose choices for safety in health care.
Identify the areas of one's professional responsibilities, one's autonomy, one's role within a multi-professional team

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Know and use correct and appropriate technical-professional terminology, for effective communication in the entire work group and in the nurse-client relationship
Able to exhibit the notions of knowledge and ability to understand safety in health care settings
Use appropriate communication skills with care recipients of all ages and their families within the care process and/or with other healthcare professionals.

LEARNING ABILITY
Prepare the exam by individually planning and managing the study based on the content of the lessons, the teaching material delivered and the sources suggested for further study

Have completed the general training course for workers (4 hours) and passed the final learning test. Material available on moodle. Propaedeutic teaching for ‘Training activities and cognitive tutoring 1'.

The contents of the course concern the principles, methods and rules governing safety in the workplace in the health professions and the criteria of health radiation protection.
The comfort and safety for the patients; Healthcare-related infections; The prevention of adverse events; Accident risks in care and assistance environments; Waste disposal in care and assistance environments
National and Regional Health Service/System; Legal aspects of the Nursing Profession.
Aims and methods of prevention: Health promotion and disease prevention.
Disease epidemiology; Primary prevention; Secondary prevention; Tertiary prevention.
Strategic aims of prevention; Epidemiological methodology; The main socio-demographic indicators; Epidemiology of communicable as well as non communicable diseases.

The evaluation of the student is carried out by means of partial tests (written and/or oral test, possible tests in progress in which questions concerning the course program are proposed), for each teaching part. Then the commission verifies the overall results of the integrated teaching.

The student must demonstrate that he has achieved the learning objectives of the course.
The exam score is attributed by means of a vote expressed out of thirty with possible honors if the weighted average is higher than 30.5.
In order to pass the examination for the integrated course, the student must obtain a mark of ≥ 18 in each of the partial examinations. The final mark for the integrated course examination is derived from the weighted average, thus weighted on the University Credits of each module, obtained in the partial tests.
If the student does not accept the overall grade for the course, he/she must repeat all the partial tests. The student may not reject the grade obtained in each partial examination
