Graduation: specific information

The final examination is the concluding step of your study programme, which you can access after obtaining all the required CFU. This examination allows you to earn the last CFU necessary for obtaining your degree.

The examination consists of the writing and defence of a thesis agreed upon with a professor (supervisor), who will guide you throughout the process, and possibly a co-supervisor. The supervisor and co-supervisor may also be external, if approved by the Board of Studies.

The thesis topic must be related to one of the course subjects and should be based on activities carried out within a research group, laboratory, or company chosen by the student and approved by the supervisor. You will need to work independently, making original contributions and positioning your work within the state of the art in the literature.

The thesis may be written and defended in English.
 

Defence and evaluation

The final examination requires the defence of the thesis before the Graduation Committee, which evaluates the work and assigns a score. The Committee also decides whether to award honours.

The final grade takes into account:

  • The weighted average of the exams taken
  • The content of the thesis
  • The quality of the thesis presentation
  • Any additional learning activities

The session dates refer to the starting day of the graduation sessions, which could continue on the following days depending on the number of graduating students.

Summer session

Submission of online graduation application: from 22 April 2025 to 12 May 2025 

Deadlines for the 13 June 2025 session:

  • Passing the last exam: 29 May 2025
  • Cancelling the graduation application (online only): 29 May 2025
  • Changing the thesis title (online only): 29 May 2025

Deadlines for the 18 July 2025 session:

  • Passing the last exam: 3 July 2025
  • Cancelling the graduation application (online only): 3 July 2025
  • Changing the thesis title (online only): 3 July 2025
Autumn session

Submission of online graduation application: from 25 August 2025 to 12 September 2025 

Deadlines for the 8 October 2025 session:

  • Passing the last exam:  23 September 2025
  • Cancelling the graduation application (online only): 23 September 2025
  • Changing the thesis title (online only):  23 September 2025

Deadlines for the 12 December 2025 session:

  • Passing the last exam:  27 November 2025
  • Cancelling the graduation application (online only): 27 November 2025

Extraordinary session

Submission of online graduation application: from 7 January 2026 to 23 January 2026
