Graduation: specific information

The Thesis

Your Master’s thesis must be experimental and carried out under the guidance of a Supervisor. You may also have up to two Co-supervisors. If you choose to write your thesis in English, you must include a short summary in Italian.

Guidelines

  • The bibliography may include up to 100 references.
  • The thesis must be submitted to the Reader* (appointed by the Degree Committee) at least 7 days before the final examination.
  • The thesis should be printed double-sided.

*The Reader is a lecturer or researcher with expertise in your subject area that will review your thesis and may propose topics for further discussion during the examination.

Procedures

To graduate, you must:

  • Submit your graduation application through the Online Student Service (See Graduation: General info) by the stated deadlines.
  • Complete the digital upload of your thesis.
  • Send the second part of the Internship application, signed by your Supervisor, at least one month before graduation to the Academic Office (didattica.dsv@units.it).
  • Provide a copy of your thesis to both the Supervisor and the Reader.

The date of the final examination will be published on this page. Details of the Committee will be sent to you by email.


The Final Examination

The examination consists of a discussion of your thesis before the Committee. It includes:

  • 15 minutes for you to present your work
  • 10 minutes to answer questions from the Reader and the Committee

The Supervisor and Reader, if they are not already members of the Committee, will take part only during your discussion.
 

Final Mark

The final grade is awarded in accordance with Art. 9 of the Teaching Regulations. You may receive up to 7 additional points, allocated as follows:

  • Up to 3 points from the Supervisor.
  • Up to 2 points from the Reader.
  • Up to 2 points from the Committee.

Additional bonus points:

  • 1 point if you graduate within the prescribed time
  • 1 point if you have obtained at least 12 CFU from exams taken abroad (credits gained from internships abroad are not considered)

The session dates refer to the starting day of the graduation sessions, which could continue on the following days depending on the number of graduating students.

Summer session

Submission of online graduation application: from 27 April 2025 to 15 May 2026

Autumn session

Extraordinary session

Submission of online graduation application: from 7 January 2027 to 22 January 2027
