Syllabus

It is expected that student will learn about the problematics related to
mineralogy and the environment, including the effects of minerals on
health, the use of georesources and critical metals, the traceability of
minerals and the recognition of frauds and fakes. Moreover it is expected
that students will be able to help an archaeologist in decipher the story of
lithic, glassy, ceramic material in the cultural heritage.

Forensic mineralogy

1- Medical geology
Asbestos and other dust materials harmful for health. Scoria and urban
particulate. Drug delivery. Biomineralization.

2- Industrial mineralogy and critical materials.
Zeolites, clays, PGM, Rare Earth, Sc and Li minerals. Polymetallic nodules.

3- Minerals in cultural heritage and ceramic materials.
Lithic materials, ceramic, glasses, metals and alloys, pigments.

4- Forensic mineralogy
Mineralogical analyses in forensics, traceability, frauds and fakes.

Direct lessons with multimedia

The examination will consist in a powerpoint presentation and a
discussion about it
