The course aims for students to acquire knowledge
in-depth analysis of the fundamental aspects of the physiopathology of the main medical-surgical diseases and their clinical manifestations.
On these topics, the student is required to demonstrate:
1. knowledge and understanding of the main concepts of microbiology, physical semeiotics and laboratory medicine; 2. knowledge and skills of
understanding applied to the diagnosis/differential diagnosis of the infectious pathologies covered by the discipline (see contents); 3. independent judgment in formulating the diagnosis based on the interpretation of the data collected even if incomplete; 4. communication skills with the patient in the collection of the anamnesis and with specialist colleagues in the multidisciplinary approach to the patient;
5. ability to learn autonomously by continuing the study also in a self-directed way.

To successfully attend the course, the student must be in possession of
the knowledge derived from the courses followed in the first two years.
To take the examination of Pathophysiology and Integrated Pathology 2,
the student must have passed the examination of Semeiotics and
Laboratory Medicine.

Introduction: overview of epidemiology, diagnosis and prevention of
infectious diseases. Sepsis, infective endocarditis, meningitis, infections
associated with health care and hospital infections, enterocolitis and food poisoning, pseudomembranous
colitis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, viral hepatitis,
infectious mononucleosis and mononucleosis syndromes, mentions on infections of
skin / soft tissues and bones, Tuberculosis, Influenza and mentions on COVID-19, HIV
infection and AIDS-related opportunistic infections, tickborne
infections: Lyme borreliosis and tick-borne encephalitis (TBE),
Malaria , Leishmaniasis; mentions on Toxoplasmosis, Amebiasis, Brucellosis and Leptospirosis.

Frontal lessons. Small-group work. All the teaching material will be available on the moodle platform.

Other information will be provided on the moodle platform.

There will be a single, integrated examination for the entire course of physiopathology, with a written part held via the moodle platform first (125 multiple-choice questions on 13 topics) and then an oral part. To be admitted to the oral part, it is necessary to have answered correctly to 60% of the questions and 60% of the topics. The oral exam will last 30 minutes and there will be 3 questions. As for the contents of this couse, there will be one oral question on one of the associations (10 minutes). Final score will be converted to a maximum of 30 points.
- Excellent (30 - 30 with honors): The student demonstrates outstanding knowledge of the topics, excellent command of language, and superb analytical skills; the student can brilliantly apply theoretical knowledge to practical cases.
- Very good (27 - 29): The student shows good knowledge of the topics, notable command of language, and good analytical skills; the student is able to correctly apply theoretical knowledge to practical cases.
- Good (24 - 26): The student demonstrates good knowledge of the main topics, reasonable command of language, and adequate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical cases.
- Satisfactory (21 - 23): The student does not show full mastery of the main topics of the course but possesses fundamental knowledge; the student exhibits satisfactory command of language and sufficient ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical cases.
- Sufficient (18 - 20): The student demonstrates minimal knowledge of the main topics of the course and technical language, with limited ability to adequately apply theoretical knowledge to practical cases.
- Insufficient: The student does not have an acceptable understanding of the contents of the various topics in the program.

This course explores topics closely related to one or more goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs).
