Syllabus

Knowledge and understanding: Understanding the basic principles for the design of a pleasure craft from its aesthetic design to the functionality of all the systems (hull, propulsion, electric and deck systems). Knowledge of the specific rule framework with particular reference to the safety of the vessel and the persons on board. Understand the issues related to obtaining class and safety certificates.
Knowledge and understanding skills applied: being able to perform the preliminary design of a pleasure craft including the calculations related to the sizing of all on-board systems through direct procedures or assisted by specific IT tools.
Making judgments: being able to apply the acquired knowledge to face the design process of a pleasure craft regardless of its size.
Communication skills: knowing how to exhibit, in both written and oral form, the design of a pleasure craft in all its parts: from design to interior layout, to the choices made in the sizing of all the main on-board systems.
Ability to learn: to be able to gather information from textbooks and other material for the formulation autonomously of the preliminary design of a pleasure craft.

Basic knowledge: naval architecture, ship construction, marine engineering, marine outfitting, technical drawing

Boating industry represents one of the excellence of our country recognized and appreciated around the world. In the past, pleasure boats were built by hand almost without resorting to the design, today it's of paramount importance the knowledge of the building processes, the technologies and the tools typical of this world. The course of "Yacht Design" tries to respond to this radical change offering to aspiring naval architects and marine engineers a specific training course calibrated to the real needs of pleasure craft market. In particular, it aims to enrich students' knowledge by providing skills and capacity to address the different levels of the boating industry (design, management and construction), synergistically integrating engineering and design, typical of the Italian sytle.

Lectures and exercises led by the teacher performed in the computer room using specific software

Oral examination on:
- a question regarding the program in the classroom (Knowledge and understanding).
- Presentation of a pleasure craft design developed according to guidelines learned in class and using IT tools used during the exercises (Knowledge and understanding skills applied). During the presentation, the student must justify the choices made independently (judgment autonomy and communication skills).
