Syllabus

The course of emission abatement plants is lit in the 2016/17 academic year on the basis of twenty years of experience gained by the teacher in the field of atmospheric emissions control of industrial plants.
The course sets the ambitious program to explore the different directions of a complex and stimulating subject according to a necessarily multidisciplinary approach that ranges from Law to Physics in its various forms, to technology (Knowledge).
The aim is to make a useful contribution to the training of engineers able to easily integrate into the environmental protection sectors, regardless of the organization in which they will operate (Company, Control Authority, Engineering Company, etc.), capable to interact with the other protagonists of the sector through the knowledge of a common language (Ability to understand, Autonomy of judgment).

The course is specifically aimed at students of the Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and is complementary to that of mechanical systems that constitutes the implicit assumption.

After a summary recall of the genesis and of the normative evolution in the field of the prevention and reduction of atmospheric pollution, the legislative framework in its widest facets, from the enunciation of the main concepts, to the definition of the emission limits, is presented and commented; the method of implementing the measures and interpreting the results.
Below is a discussion of the main emissions in relation to specific risk factors such as toxicity, methods of diffusion in the environment and assimilation by living organisms.
The second part of the course, more "traditional" for the ingenious students, is dedicated to hydraulics, with specific reference to the motion of aeriforms within ducts, and of machines, limited to the aeraulic machines that make them. In conclusion, the main abatement techniques with a systemic approach are presented. Following are the details of the program ...

Lectures followed by exercises in the classroom. Technical visits are planned to study in depth the knowledge of the abatement plants presented theoretically in the classroom. Any changes to the methods described here, which may be necessary to guarantee the application of the security protocols related to the COVID19 emergency, will be communicated on the website of the Department, the Degree Program and the teaching.

The exam consists of an oral exam with two questions concerning the
program carried out (Knowledge and ability of
comprehension).
