KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Upon completion of the course, the student should demonstrate that he or she has learned about advanced periodontal treatment, particularly in patients who are severely periodontally compromised and/or have systemic disease.
He/she will also have to demonstrate that he/she has learned and knows how to put into practice according to the latest guidelines, the knowledge related to the treatment of patients with implants and fixed prosthetic restorations.
The student will have to demonstrate that he/she has obtained the skills to manage surgically treated patients and the ability to implement and manage a comprehensive periodontal treatment plan with any type of patient and to integrate it with the comprehensive dental treatment plan.
He/she will also have to demonstrate the ability to manage and treat the special need patient (pregnant woman, transplant patient, awaiting transplant, disabled, undergoing bisphosphonate treatment, radio-treated head-neck, with immunological diseases, autistic, etc.). The student should demonstrate knowledge and ability to apply all primary, secondary and tertiary prevention protocols. The student should demonstrate the ability to design and participate in prevention programs in the community.
APPLIYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to independently manage an advanced periodontal clinical case by implementing all the strategies and concepts acquired during the three academic years. The student will have to demonstrate the ability to properly treat and manage the patient wearing fixed prostheses with special attention to the implant patient. The student will need to demonstrate knowledge and ability to implement procedures aimed at implant mentation. He/she should also be able to independently manage clinical and home treatment protocols in the patient undergoing periodontal surgery. The student will have to demonstrate the ability to correctly treat by independently managing clinical and home protocols the patient with critical systemic and special need conditions.
MAKING JUDGEMENTS
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to analyze different clinical cases and be able to rationally choose the different phases of therapeutic ieter. He/she should demonstrate the ability to implement and know how to participate in community prevention programs.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
At the end of the course, the student should demonstrate that he/she is able to expound the acquired notions with the appropriate scientific terminology.
LEARNING SKILLS

The internship is a conventional course delivered entirely in-person and involving practical activities.
1 CFU of internship is equivalent to 25 hours of in-person activities.
The internship takes place at the outpatient clinics of the Stomatology Clinic at the Maggiore and Cattinara Hospitals in Trieste (ASUIGI) and at the outpatient clinic of Pediatric Stomatology at IRCSS Burlo Garofolo.
Any changes to the modalities described here that become necessary to ensure the implementation of COVID19 emergency-related safety protocols will be communicated on the department, course, and teaching websites.
There is no other information
The student's evaluation includes a practical and oral examination in which a clinical case prepared during the academic year is to be discussed according to an outline provided by the lecturer.
During the oral interview the student must demonstrate that he/she has achieved the expected learning outcomes on a theoretical basis.
During the case presentation the student must demonstrate that he/she has solved paradigmatic cases of clinical activity.
The examination score is awarded by a grade expressed in thirtieths that takes into account the ongoing evaluations of practical internships.
The examination is passed with a mark of 18/30.
To achieve the maximum score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate excellent handling of all steps of the clinical case treated according to the latest evidence in the literature.
The evaluation grid adopted is as follows:
- Excellent (30 - 30 cum laude): very good knowledge of the topics, very good ownership of language, very good analytical skills; the student is able to brilliantly apply theoretical knowledge to the concrete case.
- Very good (27 - 29): good knowledge of topics, remarkable language property, good analytical ability; the student/ess is able to correctly apply theoretical knowledge to the concrete case.
- Good (24-26): good knowledge of the main topics, fair command of language; the
student/ess shows adequate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete case.
- Satisfactory (21-23): the student/ess does not show full mastery of the main topics of the teaching, although she/he possesses the fundamental knowledge; however, she/he shows satisfactory properties of language and sufficient ability to apply the theoretical knowledge to the concrete case.
- Sufficient (18-20): minimal knowledge of the main topics of the teaching and technical language, limited ability to adequately apply theoretical knowledge to concrete case.
- Insufficient: the student(s) does not possess acceptable content knowledge of the various program topics.
No partial tests are scheduled.
