Syllabus

The student is expected to show mastery of the knowledge related to:
- Interaction between clinical practitioner, small patient and parents;
- Diagnostic basis of the main dental malocclusions and practical applications;
- Dental hygiene of the orthodontic patient and the problems inherent to plaque control in subjects with fixed and mobile appliances;
- Anatomy of the temporomandibular joint and main pathologies.
Expected learning outcomes (Dublin descriptors)
Knowledge and understanding:
The student should acquire knowledge suitable for dealing with care problems typical of the paediatric age as well as the positive interaction with the young patient and his/her parents. He/she should know the main dental-parodontal pathologies in paediatric age and prophylactic manoeuvres and have basic knowledge of how to recognise dental malocclusions and gnathological problems.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
The student will be able to apply dento-parodontic, preventive, orthodontic and gnathological knowledge on real clinical cases.
Autonomy of judgement:
The student will be able to critically analyse individual clinical cases differentiating diagnostic and therapeutic paths according to the young age of the patient
Communication skills:
The student will be able to compare with appropriate and scientific terminology with young patients and parents particularly in the preventive discipline of dento-parodontal and growth pathologies.
Learning ability:
Through the analysis of recent scientific literature, the student will be able to implement with a critical spirit and an evidence-based approach their knowledge of subjects in the developmental age

Quality education

The student's evaluation includes an oral test in which clinical cases, multiple answers test and no less than 3 open-ended questions are proposed.
The student must demonstrate the ability to sustain a discussion in orthodontic and gnathology of a diagnostic and generalist nature.
The examination is scored by a grade expressed in thirtieths. To pass the examination (18/30), the student must demonstrate at least sufficient knowledge in all the proposed questions. In contrast, to achieve the maximum score (30/30 cum laude), the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all topics covered.
