Syllabus

The general objective of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge on the foundations of nursing science, cultural anthropology and the functioning of cognitive processes, in order to be able to use methodologies and tools, specific to the disciplines covered in the individual modules, integrating them into professional practice and interaction with the patient.
Students must demonstrate that they:
- have acquired sufficient general basic knowledge relating to the topics covered in the individual modules, being able to decline them for the specific professional sector, and to use them for further in-depth analysis;
- be able to apply the knowledge and understanding skills acquired in the individual modules also in work contexts, even in an integrated way;
- have developed autonomy in finding, discerning and using information and scientific data with respect to clearly defined problems, and have developed a certain degree of autonomous reflection and integration on the topics covered in the individual modules;
- be able to communicate about what they have learned with their peers, with superiors and with clients/patients;
- have developed learning methods and strategies that allow for further study with a certain degree of autonomy.


There are no prerequisites.
Preparatory course for the exam “Internship activities and cognitive tutoring 1”.

The course CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY will present the main concepts of Cultural anthropology (culture, identity, cultural relativism, ethnocentrism). The anthropological view: the relationship between observer and observation object. Anthropological interpretation of nursing in Western society. The body and corporeity. To cure-to care.
The course EPISTEMOLOGY AND NURSING THEORY will cover the scientific development of nursing, the main models and theories of nursing, the basis of the methodology of clinical nursing reasoning, and the applicability of conceptual theories/models
The course FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF THE NURSING PROFESSION will deal with topics such as the nursing profession in the university system, the meaning of nursing care, critical thinking in the nursing profession, the "right distance" in the nursing relationship, the communication process and professional language
In the course GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY the studies and researches on the main cognitive functions will be addressed, comparing the different historical approaches of the greatest schools of thought, with the aim of analyzing and understanding what the main mechanisms are and how they work in determining the processes of the elaboration of our experience of ourselves and of the world, and which allow the organization and development of the cognitive system, the guidance and control of behavior, the interaction with objects and other organisms, and the planning of our goals.

EPISTEMOLOGY AND NURSING THEORY
Epistemology of the nursing discipline, Definition of the fundamental concepts of the philosophies of nursing practice, Grand Theories, theories and conceptual models, Description of the main characteristics of nursing diagnoses, Description of the logical sequence of the phases of the nursing process based on the main theoretical models, fundamental principles for the application of theories/conceptual models in different healthcare settings.
FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF THE NURSING PROFESSION
The meaning of nursing/caring and health models over time, Critical thinking in the nursing profession and the complexity of the clinic, The “helping professions” and the “right distance” in the care relationship, The communication process: verbal, non-verbal and paraverbal communication; the elements of communication; communication styles, Professional language.
GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY
General vision of scientific psychology, notes on the historical and epistemological foundations, biological bases and main objects of study of the discipline, General framework of the principles underlying thinking, reasoning, decision making and problem solving, Framing of the functions and limitations of the cognitive system in terms of memory, attention, vigilance, Bases of conditioning and learning, Role and regulation of emotion and motivation in human performance and behavior, Management of cognitive resources, Bases of communication in the clinical setting, definition and peculiarities of the clinician's role, effective and problematic ways of interacting with patients

The final exam is integrated, knowledge and skills related to all modules are ascertained altogether.
The final grade is given by the sum of the grades obtained in the tests related to the 4 modules of the integrated course, if the pass mark is reached in each of them. The tests will be taken simultaneously in the same session, according to the evaluation methods indicated in the syllabi of each module.
The score of the final exam is assigned by means of a grade expressed in thirtieths.
The following parameters will be taken into account in assigning the final grade:
Grade 29-30 cum laude: the student has an in-depth knowledge of the contents of the integrated course and has full mastery of the technical-scientific terminology
Grade 26-28: the student has a good knowledge of the contents of the integrated course and has appropriate knowledge of the technical-scientific terminology
Grade 22-25: the student has a fair knowledge of the contents of the integrated course, even if limited to some topics, and has a fair knowledge of the technical-scientific terminology
Grade 18-21: the student has a minimal knowledge of the contents of the integrated course and the technical-scientific terminological competence is poorly developed
Exam failed: the student does not possess the minimum required knowledge of the main contents of the integrated course, and the ability to use the technical-scientific terminology is very poor or non-existent

This teaching explores topics closely related to one or more of the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
