Syllabus

The course aims to prepare health professionals adequately informed about the regulations governing safety in the workplace.
D1. Knowledge and understanding: At the end of the course, the student will have to demonstrate knowledge of the rules and guidelines for the professional activity of a nurse and the safe working procedures related to the correct use of collective and personal means of protection.
D2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course, the student must be able to find, recognize and interpret a regulatory text and/or a guideline for safety in nursing.
D3: Making judgements: At the end of the course, the student must be able to analyze and propose choices for safety in health care
D4: Communication skills: At the end of the course, the student will have to demonstrate that he is able to exhibit the notions of knowledge and ability to understand safety in health care settings. D5. Learning skills: At the end of the course the student must be able to independently deepen the topics covered, moreover he must be able to transfer the concepts learned in subsequent courses

Have completed the general training course for workers (4 hours) and passed the final learning test. Material available on moodle

The contents of the course concern the principles, methods and rules governing safety in the workplace in the health professions and the criteria of health radiation protection.

Occupational medicine objectives and regulatory evolution;
- Prevention in Occupational Medicine: Risk assessment, health surveillance, information and training of workers
- Actors involved in prevention (Workers, Employer (executives and supervisors), Prevention Serv., Competent Doctor, Workers' Safety Representatives)
- Prevention of accidents and occupational diseases in the health sector
Biohazard (post-exposure protocol)
Risks from chemical agents (labelling and safety data sheets)
Ergonomic risk (bone and joint disorders and pathologies)
Organizational risk (night shift, work-related stress)
Risks associated with the use of video terminals
Physical risk (vibrations, non-ionizing radiation)
Allergic risk (latex diseases)
Risk from use of carcinogenic/antiblastic substances (occupational tumours)
Risk from ionizing radiation

The student's assessment will include a written examination consisting of multiple choice on the health and
safety topics covered in the course. The result of the examination will be marked out of thirty. Each multiple choice question is worth
1 point, each missed answer 0 points, each wrong answer 0 points. To pass the
examination, the student must achieve a total score of 18 or above. To achieve the maximum score (30/30 cum laude), the student must demonstrate that he/she has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course.
