The course provides tools to draw geological maps and cross-sections
Basic knowledge on sedimentology, stratigraphy, mineralogy, petrography, structural geology, Quaternary geology, and geological mapping
The goal is learning how read and produce geological maps, geological cross-section through in-class and on-filed exercises. The main topics are: - reconstruct stratigraphic and tectonic boundaries; - Analyze a geological map; - Produce geological cross-section using kink and Busk methods; - Produce geological cross-section using free-hand method; - Collect stratigraphic and structural data on the field - Identification of plutonic and volcanic structures and lithologies - Identification of some metamorphic sequences, recognition of Quaternary sequences
